Quarries

The slabs that end up being installed as benchtops or wall cladding start off as large segments of stone called ‘blocks’. The process of extracting blocks of stone occurs in large open quarries on the side of mountain ranges. In the modern age stone is extracted using a diamond wire cutter or diamond
chainsaw, this has drastically increasing the precision and speed it takes to quarry the stone, as well as allowing the extraction of much harder types of stones such as Quartzites. Once the block is extracted it makes its way to various stone manufacturers.

Stone Manufacturers

Stone manufacturers cut the stone blocks into either slabs or tiles, and to give the stone its finished surface. The stone block is first cut into the required format depending on the intended use as slabs or tiles. The finish is then applied to the surface of the material using large production lines. Avant
Stone works exclusively with some of world’s highest quality stone manufacturers and has quality assurance inspectors in each of the major stone producing countries to ensure the material meets our quality standards.
Once the stone has been processed and packaged, it makes the long journey to the Avant Stone Slab Gallery. This can take between 8-12 weeks port to port, depending on where the stone is coming from.

Avant Stone Slab Gallery

Once the stone has arrived at the Avant Stone Slab Gallery, slabs are then placed on A-frame for display in a gallery setting and client selection. We encourage our clients to come down to view and pick out their own piece of natural art for their home.
